La Ceiba has the Major Number of bilingual schools per capita in Central America, all of them private, probably due to the proximity of the English Speaking communities that came here from Cayman Island and the influence of the Standard Fruit Company, a subsidiary of Dole. This schools offer a bachillerato, which is the equivalent of a High School diploma. There are no less than four Universities in La Ceiba, serving the whole North East region being the oldest the Estate University of Agriculture, Forest Services and Economics among other degrees, the rest of Universities are private like the Catholic University, UTH and UNITEC serving administration, legal and Tec subjects.
